Deborah Oniyide (Debiez), a Mass Communication graduate is not only set to storm the music industry with her song, but also ready for global stardom; she let us into her world. Excerpts…

CAN WE MEET YOU?
I am Deborah Oniyide fondly known as Debbie, a native of Ogun State, Ilaro Yewa South. I’m from a big family, the sixth child of my parent, also a creative artiste.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I had my primary and secondary school in Lagos, my tertiary education in Ibadan where I studied Mass Communication at the Polytechnic of Ibadan; I graduated in 2009.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTO MUSIC?
I have been into music right from my childhood, I belong to a group called “New Star” which I am the coordinator, I was trained Bose T.

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
I get inspired mostly when I am happy, I don’t drink, and I don’t smoke to get inspired. Whenever I get any inspiration I pen them down at times I record them on my phone.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU DO?
I do commercial music, love songs, gospel and Hip-hop. The first song I did was a gospel song.

SONGS SO FAR
I have “Because of you, I want you die, I love you and baby boo”, one of the song is about a guy whom I love and I know he loves me as well but he doesn’t want to come out straight, so I am trying to tell him to open up because we both love ourselves. I am working with ID Cabasa on the tracks.

YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES
As a young girl growing up to embrace music in my primary and secondary school days, I would say its CĂ©line Dion and BeyoncĂ©.

WHO ARE THE ARTISTES YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO WORK WITH?
Am looking forward to have collaboration with Iyanya, Davido and Vector

TELL US THREE THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF
I am a cheerful giver, friendly, and down to earth

HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTY?
Music in Nigeria is really going far, but the problem is that some people are not really passing messages; every song should pass a message. As an Artist in Nigeria we have to see ourselves as preachers spreading a positive message with our songs.
Listening to some music you will find out that there is no meaning in what they are singing. In as much as we are singing to entertain its high time we started to pass meaningful messages to the people

YOUR STYLE OF DRESSING
Wow! My style of dressing is usually funny, sometimes crazy but unique. I do hairstyle that is usually out of what you find around, at times I go on different earrings, people will be like "Ha! Heya! May be she did not see the other earring," but it is my style. People see me as a weird person not knowing am just a simple lady who loves to be fashionable in a unique style.

ASIDE FROM MUSIC WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?
I am a dermatologist, a hair stylist, a make-up artist. I have my own beauty outfit. When am been called upon to work am always on duty because I love what I do, I go with my crew to do the job. I have worked with DJ Tee, Dr. B and the host of others  still looking forward to work with other big brands.

WHAT ARE YOUR LIKES?
I love listening to music and writing

WHAT ARE YOUR DISLIKES?
I have Zero tolerance for lazy and fake people.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?
Hmmm…. In the next five years by the grace of God I see myself going international, I know I’m not a lazy person, I love to work. I see myself at the top of my game having not just Nigerian Awards but International Awards.

ADVICE TO YOUNG PEOPLE
Focus is the word, always believe in yourself, do not be discouraged by people and above all put God first in all you do.
